Last Day with Teresa: October 28

The morning dawned with clouds and occasional rain showers. Teresa joined us after breakfast for a last walk in the Welsh countryside. We drove back to the “top of the world” views we’d encountered a day before and set off on a hike across sheep fields.

The views were amazing but the wind blows cold at the top of the world, and rain was threatening, so we turned back and took a long drive instead. This is what we found on our drive:

Sated with beauty, we drove home to shower and prepare for dinner at 6:30 in Leominster. We picked up Teresa in Presteigne at 6:00 and drove in the dark (a bit trying on these twisty roads) into Leominster, 20 minutes away. Luke had recommended The Riverside at Amestrey as a place with “good food but not too expensive.” And he was right on the first count. We started our meal with drinks near the fireplace (cider, ale, and sherry), then moved to our table when our orders were ready: duck, fish, red cabbage, creamed potatoes, carrots. So, so good and elegantly presented.

This final dish was sticky toffee pudding, which
Ruth and I shared. So rich and so delicious.

The drive home was not as stressful (due to cider?), and we parted with Teresa, saying our good-byes, as we were leaving for Cumbria in the morning. What a splendid way to end a week of beauty and friendship. So thankful.
